PATIENT INFORMATION
Sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim is a combination
product used to treat infections of the airway such as bronchitis,
sinusitis, ear infections, and urinary tract infections. This drug
should not be used by those with sulfa allergies. Allergies to this
medication may occur on the second or third exposure to the drug.
Signs to watch for include sore throat, fever, joint pain, cough,
shortness of breath, or pallor. If this occurs, stop the medication
and call your physician immediately. It is very important to drink
a lot of fluids while taking this medication. Each dose should be
taken with a full glass of water with water being drunk throughout
the day. This medication is an antibiotic. It is important to finish
the full course of therapy even if your symptoms improve.
